Leejung Hong, LEED AP

Principal

Leejung Hong, LEED AP is a Principal at Winstanley Architects & Planners, where she leads the firm’s architecture, planning and interior design teams with exceptional rigor, vision, and dedication. With over 15 years at the firm, Leejung is its longest-serving team member and a defining force behind Winstanley’s interdisciplinary approach to complex design challenges. Her ability to manage large, multifaceted assignments—balancing creativity, technical execution, and stakeholder collaboration—makes her a trusted leader across a diverse portfolio of civic, institutional, and residential work.

An expert in zoning, building code, and entitlement strategy, Leejung assembles custom project teams tailored to the specific needs of each assignment. She is frequently sought after for her ability to navigate regulatory complexity while maintaining architectural clarity and purpose. She led the design and delivery of Sycamore & Oak, a mass timber marketplace and workforce incubator in Southeast DC that demonstrates the power of architecture to support inclusive economic development. As Principal for The Braystone in Alexandria, she guided a hybrid infill development that seamlessly integrates two preserved 18th-century buildings with new, modern condominiums. Leejung also led the renovation of Hangar 110 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, a design-build contract to retrofit a historic structure with advanced fire suppression systems.

Her leadership of Mullins Hall and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Master Plan required close coordination with preservation authorities and institutional leadership to update academic facilities while restoring historic integrity. Other key projects include the Old Dominion Boat Club, a contemporary civic structure in Old Town Alexandria that sets a precedent for context-sensitive urban design in historic environments.

A LEED-accredited professional, Leejung drives the firm’s sustainability initiatives and is a recognized expert in mass timber construction. She recently served as a juror for a national mass timber design awards program and continues to advocate for innovative, climate-responsive solutions in the built environment.

Leejung holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and a Master of Architecture from Yale University. Raised in Dubai, she brings a global perspective to every project and remains deeply engaged in mentorship and education. She is an active participant in the AIA|DC “Design Like a Girl” mentorship program, helping to inspire the next generation of young women in design.
