The National Capital Planning Commission project was to develop an in-depth master planning study that would provide suitable locations within Washington, DC for all future memorials and museums.
This master plan will assist the Department of the Interior in guiding potential sponsors of proposed commemorative features within the Nation’s Capital. The plan establishes locational criteria and identifies potential sites that support historic urban design elements of the L’Enfant and McMillan Commission Plans.
Providing new direction for future memorials and museums, the plan will advance economic revitalization throughout the city while implementing urban design elements of NCPC’s recently completed “Legacy Plan.” Based on an urban design framework that builds on historic plans, the team of planners, architects, transportation engineers and economists identified more than one hundred prominent sites throughout the city for all future monuments, memorials, and museums.
Michael Winstanley AIA AICP was the Design Principal for this project during his tenure as Design Director at Leo A Daly.
