Georgetown Preparatory School – Master Plan

Georgetown Preparatory School is the Nation’s oldest Catholic secondary school for boys. It is located on a campus of neo-Georgian buildings surrounded by a nine-hole junior golf course. In the late 1990s, in response to modern needs, the School resolved to plan for expansion of campus buildings, including a new athletic center, reconfigured playing fields, reprogrammed existing buildings on the central quadrangle and revised circulation and parking for the campus.

The design team, led by Michael Winstanley AIA AICP while design director at Leo A Daly, used charette meetings with faculty, staff, students and parents to discover essential issues that needed to be addressed in terms of eventual siting of the 120,000-sf athletic complex, as well as devise a circulation scheme that protects the private character of the inner quadrangle while improving access and event-related parking at the perimeter.

The team has relocated various elements of the existing quadrangle buildings, including the conversion of the old gym into a student life center with a central dining facility and study and lounge areas. Future sites for new buildings are identified as well as replanning the quarters for residential student advisors and Jesuit faculty.
